Kyaninga Dairy

Who says it's only the French who know how to make dreamy and creamy goat's cheese? Kyaninga Dairy, a farm in Fort Portal, is putting Ugandan goat's cheese on the map!

Hand crafted goat's cheese

Gouda, emmenthaler, halloumi, parmesan; yes, Kampala has (imported) it. But up till recently, I hadn't tasted anything delicious made on Ugandan soil. Until I tried Kyaninga's Kabarole that is. Wow, this hand crafted goat's cheese will absolutely win you over!

I can just imagine a flock of happy bleating goats roaming the Toro region, eating its sumptious grass at will. The raw milk they produce is used  - without any processing - in 3 different cheeses:

1. There's the previous mentioned Kabarole: a log shaped smooth and creamy cheese that combines acidity with a lemony tang (35K).

2. Or what about The Toro? A light, mousse-like cheese which ash-covered rind gives it a nutty flavour (25K).

3. After trying them all, I concluded that the Mpanga cheese is a definite hit in my books. A fresh and light cheese with lemony flavours rolled in fresh herbs (like rosemary) from the farms own garden (25K).

You can find Kyaninga's products at The Pantry on Kisementi, DiVino on Mabua Road and Quality Hill on Ggaba Road.
